The feed-in-tariffs were introduced in April 2010 as parts of the government's scheme to boost the number of renewable energy installations in the UK. Feed-in-tariffs have been adopted in numerous European countries over recent years, and have proved to be an enormous success wherever implemented.
If you install a solar photovoltaic system on your property, the government will pay you 21p/KWh for every kilowatt of electricity you produce, regardless of whether you use it or not. Your system is effectively your own electricity station, and you make money for every kilowatt of electricity you produce. This tariff rate is linked to the RPI for maximum return on investment.
The money you make on the electricity you produce goes hand-in-hand with the money you save on your electricity bills. Install a TDFM Solar PV system and sit back and watch as your electricity bill plummets.
As a further boost to your investment, any excess electricity that your system produces can be sold back to National Grid at a negotiable rate, usually about 3.1p/KWh.
The feed-in-tariffs have turned solar photovoltaic energy from an eco-friendly luxury into a fantastic investment opportunity.
From April 2012 the eligibility of a solar PV installation will be linked to the energy performance of the property the system is installed on. Householders with an eligibility date after 1st April 2012 will receive 21p/kWh provided that their home has an Energy Performance Certificate of band D or higher (with A being the highest). Homes that do not have an Energy Performance Certificate of a band D or higher will receive 9p/kWh.
TDFM Solar can provide you with an Energy Performance Certificate for your property. If your property is below a band D, we can offer cost-effective ways to improve the performance of your property, such as loft and cavity wall insulation, which can increase your rating to a band D or higher, ensuring you are eligible for the higher feed-in tariff rates.
The government has announced that the feed-in tariff level will be decreased every six months. So for householders with an eligibility date after 1st July 2012 it is proposed that the rate will be between 13.6p/kWh and 16.5p/kWh. The exact rate will depend upon the number of PV installations between March and April 2012.
