Solar Thermal

Solar Thermal heating systems use energy from the sun to heat water. A conventional boiler or immersion heater is then used to make the water hotter, or to provide hot water when solar energy is unavailable.

Energy from the sun is used to heat a thermal fluid within the solar panels, which is then pumped into a water cylinder. The thermal fluid is used to heat the water in the cylinder, which you can then use around your home or business.

If for any reason the solar system is unable to heat the water to the desired temperature (for example at night), your conventional boiler kicks in and heats the water the rest of the way. This ensures that you will notice no difference in your hot water supply after installing a thermal system.

Thermal panels have no moving parts, so they do not degrade over time. They require little or no maintenance and will generate hot water on even the coldest winters day.

Solar thermal systems are soon to be covered by the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), which will see thermal energy become a fantastic investment opportunity. The RHI is due to be launched in October 2012. For more information, please see our page on the Renewable Heat Incentive.

It is important to note that solar thermal systems require a large heating cylinder. Your building must have the space available to locate this cylinder.

Most conventional boiler and hot water cylinder systems are compatible with solar water heating, however if your boiler is a combination boiler (combi) and you don't currently have a hot water tank then a solar hot water system may not be compatible.

A typical solar thermal system costs between £4000 and £5000. To book a no-obligation free quotation today, please do not hesitate to contact our sales team on 0114 258 9509.
